Travellers who want to ski on slopes that Olympic athletes used will enjoy snow holidays in Japan. The Winter Olympics were held in Sapporo in 1972 and in the Nagano Prefecture in 1998. Other places in Japan for winter holidays include Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro and Furano which can be accessed easily from a number of major destinations including Tokyo and Kyoto holidays.
The city of Sapporo hosts a snow festival every February. Large snow sculptures are displayed in Odori Park. There are more sculptures at the Tsu Dome Site. Visitors can go snow rafting and play on snow slides here. There are food stands and a stage for events at Tsu Dome. Skiers who want to follow the path of Olympic athletes can ski on the Sapporo Teine Olympia Hill.
